Surface prep
We fill holes, sand rough spots, clean the surfaces, tape the edges and prime wherever it's needed. It takes time, and it's where most of the difference comes from.
Painting
Coats go on evenly, one section at a time. Inside, we usually do two coats on the walls and two on the trim.
Touch-ups and cleanup
The tape comes off carefully, we touch up anything that needs it, and the room is left clean with the furniture back where it was.

Can you paint the outside of my downtown Whitby house in stages, one side a year?
We can, and on a big two-storey house it's a reasonable way to spread the cost. The trade-off is that a freshly painted side will look brighter than the others for a while, even in the same colour. Starting with the side that gets the most sun usually makes sense, since that's where paint breaks down first. Each stage gets its own written estimate.
We close on a new house in west Whitby next month. Should we paint before or after the move?
Before, if you can manage it. Empty rooms paint faster and cleaner, with no furniture to shift and nothing hung on the walls. Even a few days between closing and the moving truck is enough for a few rooms, since a single bedroom usually takes about a day. If the timing doesn't work, a painting contractor can still work around you, room by room, once you've settled in.
