Deck Repair in Lindsay, ON

Fix the rot before it spreads.

Some decks in Lindsay have sat through decades of hard Kawartha winters, and you can feel it when you walk across them. Boards flex underfoot and the railing gives when you lean on it. Pedro handles deck repair in Lindsay on those older decks and on cottage decks out around Kawartha Lakes. He checks the structure first, so you'll know if it needs a repair or a replacement before spending anything.

Decks That Have Seen Decades of Kawartha Winters

An old deck usually fails from the bottom up. Water sits on top of the joists under every board, and after enough winters the wood there softens. The ledger, where the deck meets the house, is the spot that concerns us most, because if it pulls away the whole deck can drop. We probe every joist and post, plus the ledger board, before quoting, then tell you what can stay and what has to go.

Deck replacement comes up often with Lindsay's older downtown homes, and sometimes it's the honest answer. When the frame is rotten, new boards on top are wasted money. Stairs and railings tend to go first on older decks, since their posts and stringers take water from every side. Rebuilding a small deck starts at around $3,000, and new railings run about $20 to $50 per linear foot.

Cottage decks sit closer to the water and stay wetter, so rot and loose fasteners show up sooner. Hardware near the water rusts faster too, so we check joist hangers and screws along with the wood. We repair them at seasonal properties around Lindsay and further out toward Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Omemee and Coboconk. Spring, before the cottage gets busy, is a good time to have one looked at, and fall works if you'd rather it was fixed before the snow.

Pedro handles deck repairs, board replacement, railings and new deck builds. For how he approaches deck repair in general, see our deck repair & building page.

How deck repair works

  1. Inspection

We go over the whole structure: boards, joists, posts, hardware, railings, and where the deck attaches to the house.

  2. Diagnosis and quote

We tell you exactly what has to be replaced and what can be saved. The written estimate lists the materials out.

  3. Repair or build

Bad boards come out and new ones go in. If the framing underneath needs work, that gets done first. New builds start with proper footings.

  4. Finishing

We sand, then stain or seal as needed. A deck that's finished properly lasts years longer than one left bare.

Deck Repair cost in Lindsay

Replacing boards usually costs $15 to $30 per board, depending on the material.

New railings run about $20 to $50 per linear foot.

A full rebuild of a 10x12 pressure-treated deck is typically $3,000 to $7,000. Height, complexity and local conditions decide where in that range it lands.

Every job gets a free written estimate first, so the price is settled before work starts.

Deck Repair in Lindsay: FAQ

Do you offer deck repair in Lindsay?

Yes. Lindsay is part of our Kawartha Lakes service area, and we work there from our base in Bowmanville. Call or text (289) 928-5689, or request a free estimate online.

Can new deck boards be matched to the old ones?

Not perfectly at first. New pressure-treated boards start out lighter or greenish and take a season or so to weather toward the colour of the older wood. If the deck is going to be stained anyway, staining the whole surface after the repair blends old and new together. With composite, we look for the closest match still being made, which isn't always exact on an older deck.

Is it safe to keep using a deck with a wobbly railing until spring?

We wouldn't lean on it. A railing that moves usually has loose fasteners or a post rotting at the base, and it's the part that's meant to stop someone from falling. Until it's fixed, keep people off that section, especially kids. Deck railing repair is often a small job, so there's little reason to leave it through the winter.
