Caulking Services in Pickering, ON

Keep the water out.

In Pickering's older neighbourhoods, exterior caulking around windows and doors is one of the most frequent requests, along with redoing it in the bathroom. On a house from the 1960s to 1980s, that caulk may have been redone a few times or never touched. We offer caulking services in Pickering for interiors and exteriors, and the old bead always comes out completely first so the new one bonds to clean surfaces.

Window and Door Seals on Older Pickering Homes

Exterior caulking does a quiet job. Where siding meets a window frame, door trim or a dryer vent, that bead is what keeps rain out of the wall. On older Pickering houses it has often dried hard and shrunk. It pulls away from one side and leaves a gap you can slide a fingernail into. Water gets in during every storm. We cut it out, clean the joint and lay a high-quality paintable acrylic-latex, tooled smooth.

Window caulking takes more punishment on houses closer to the waterfront, where wind and moisture are hard on any seal. Check the bottom corners of windows and the sill joints first, since that's where water collects. If the trim there feels soft, the caulking has probably been failing for a while, and the wood may need repair before it's resealed.

Seaton is a different story. In a new house, framing and trim shrink as they dry, and the caulk at baseboards, tub surrounds and window trim can open into hairline gaps in the first year or two. That's normal, and it's an easy fix once the house has settled. A tub or shower recaulk runs $75 to $150, a full bathroom is usually $150 to $250, and the minimum is $50.

Pedro handles caulking removal and replacement around tubs, showers, sinks and windows. For how he approaches caulking services in general, see our caulking services page.

How caulking services works

  1. Removal

We cut and scrape out every bit of the old caulking. Anything left behind stops the new caulk from sticking properly, so we don't skip this.

  2. Clean and prep

The joint is cleaned with a mildew remover and left to dry completely.

  3. Apply new caulk

Wet areas get 100% silicone. Trim and exterior joints get a paintable acrylic-latex. Every bead is tooled smooth for a clean, professional finish.

  4. Cure time

Silicone takes 24 hours to fully cure. We'll let you know when it's safe to use the tub or sink again.

Caulking Services in Pickering: FAQ

Do you offer caulking services in Pickering?

Yes. Pickering is part of our Durham Region service area, and we work there from our base in Bowmanville. Call or text (289) 928-5689, or request a free estimate online.

There's a draft around the old windows in my Pickering house. Will new caulking stop it?

It helps if the air is coming in around the frame, where the window meets the siding outside or the trim inside. Caulking won't fix drafts through the window itself, like worn weatherstripping on the sash or a failed seal between panes. We can find where the air is getting in and tell you which fix makes sense. That includes telling you if the window itself is close to the end of its life.

Can you do exterior caulking in Pickering when the weather turns cold?

Only within limits. Exterior caulk needs a dry joint and temperatures inside the range the product is rated for, so most outside caulking gets done between spring and fall. Bathrooms and kitchens are a different matter, since indoor work can happen any time of year. Winter is actually a good time to book the tub and shower, and leave the windows for spring.
