Home Renovations in Pickering, ON

Room by room, done right.

Plenty of the 1960s to 1980s houses in Pickering have bathrooms and kitchens that were last updated a couple of owners ago. Our home renovations in Pickering are practical in scale: a bathroom remodel, a kitchen refresh or a basement room. With 16 years in construction, Pedro can handle every stage himself: demo, framing, drywall, flooring and the finish work.

Bathroom and Kitchen Updates for Older Pickering Homes

Houses of that era were laid out differently. Kitchens tend to be closed off and bathrooms small, and plumbing and wiring may have been altered piece by piece over the years. Before quoting a remodel, Pedro looks at what's behind the finishes: the subfloor around the toilet and tub, signs of past leaks and whether a wall is carrying load. Knowing that up front keeps surprises out of the middle of the job.

A bathroom remodel in an older Pickering home often means a new tub or shower, tile, vanity, toilet and lighting, with the subfloor repaired wherever water has got in. Budget-wise, Ontario bathroom renovations usually land between $5,000 and $15,000. On the kitchen side, a refresh with new counters, painted cabinets, a backsplash and fixtures sits around $5,000 to $12,000. Changing the layout puts it at $15,000 and up.

If you're in a newer Seaton home, the renovation is more likely to be the basement than the kitchen. Finishing one starts around $20 to $40 per square foot, depending on the level of finish, and it gives a family a rec room, an office or a guest room without moving. We close off the work area and keep dust down so the rest of the house stays livable while we work.

Pedro handles bathroom remodels, kitchen refreshes and room renovations. For how he approaches home renovations in general, see our home remodeling & renovation page.

Home Renovations in Pickering: FAQ

Do you offer home renovations in Pickering?

Yes. Pickering is part of our Durham Region service area, and we work there from our base in Bowmanville. Call or text (289) 928-5689, or request a free estimate online.

Our 1970s Pickering kitchen is closed off from the dining room. Can you take the wall out?

Possibly. First we need to know whether the wall carries load from above and what runs through it, such as ductwork, plumbing or wiring. A non-load-bearing wall is a fairly simple removal. A load-bearing wall is a bigger job that needs a properly sized beam and may need a permit, so we'll explain what's involved and what it adds to the cost before you decide.

Can you match the existing hardwood when we renovate part of our older Pickering house?

Sometimes. Older strip flooring can often be matched with new boards of the same width and species, then sanded and finished together so the colour blends. Aged wood doesn't always match exactly, so in some rooms it makes more sense to run new flooring through the whole level. We'll look at what you have before suggesting either route, and price both if they're close.
