Eaves Trough Cleaning in Oshawa, ON

Water where it belongs.

Eaves trough maintenance is a regular need on Oshawa's mid-century bungalows, and cleaning is always in demand across the city. We handle eaves trough cleaning in Oshawa by scooping the troughs out by hand, flushing each downspout and checking the brackets and joints. All the debris gets bagged and hauled away, so nothing ends up on your lawn. On a standard single-storey home, expect $125 to $200.

Bungalow Gutters and Damp Basements in Oshawa

On a bungalow, every trough drains close to the foundation. When a trough overflows or a downspout clogs, the water drops straight down beside the basement wall instead of being carried off. In the old houses near the lake, where basement moisture is already a familiar problem, that makes things worse. Gutter cleaning, and making sure each downspout empties well away from the house, is a cheap first step before anyone starts talking about waterproofing.

A big maple or oak over the roof changes the schedule, with seeds packing the troughs in spring and leaves filling them in fall. Some houses need a summer visit as well. Maple seeds can even sprout in a trough that stays damp, and a trough heavy with wet debris pulls on its brackets until a section starts to sag. The late-fall cleaning, after the leaves are down, is the one not to skip.

Newer houses north of Taunton are a different job. The trees there are younger, so the troughs collect more shingle grit and windblown debris than leaves, but downspouts still clog. If the house is a two-storey, cleaning runs $175 to $300 depending on roof size and how many downspouts it has. While we're up there, we look for sagging sections, leaky joints and brackets pulling away from the fascia.

Pedro handles eaves trough and gutter cleaning. For how he approaches eaves trough cleaning in general, see our eaves trough & gutter cleaning page.

How eaves trough cleaning works

  1. Clear debris

We take every leaf, twig, bit of shingle grit and packed-in dirt out of the whole eaves trough system, by hand and with a scoop.

  2. Flush downspouts

Each downspout gets flushed with a hose so we know it's clear.

  3. Check for problems

We look for sagging sections, loose brackets, leaky joints, and spots where the trough has pulled away from the fascia.

  4. Ground cleanup

All the debris is bagged and taken away. You won't find piles of gutter muck on your lawn after we leave.

My basement in south Oshawa gets damp after heavy rain. Could my eaves troughs be the cause?

They can be part of it. Overflowing troughs and downspouts that empty right at the wall send a lot of water toward the foundation. During downspout cleaning we check that each one runs clear and point out any that discharge too close to the house. If the dampness continues after that, the cause may be grading or the foundation itself, which is a job for a different trade.

My Oshawa bungalow's troughs overflow at one corner every time it storms. Is that a clog or a slope problem?

It could be either. A clog near the downspout outlet causes overflow at that spot, and cleaning fixes it. If the trough is clean and still spills, a section may have sagged so water pools away from the outlet. We check the pitch and brackets while we're up there, and minor fixes like refastening a sagging section can often be done on the same visit.
