My Oshawa house has plaster walls. Can heavy shelves still go up?
Yes. The weight goes into the wood framing behind the plaster, not into the plaster itself. Locating studs and drilling cleanly takes longer than in drywall, so plaster installs can take a little more time. For a really heavy load, like a wall of books, we can fasten a ledger strip across several studs and hang the shelving from that to spread the weight.
The closets in my 1980s Oshawa house have mirrored sliding doors. Can you still fit an organizer?
Yes. Sliding doors only open half the closet at a time, so the layout matters more than usual. Drawers and shelf towers go where they can be reached with either door open, and long hanging goes at the ends behind the panels. We measure the depth of the door track too, so nothing stops the doors from sliding past.
