Caulking Services in Newcastle, ON

Keep the water out.

Older houses near Newcastle's core often need work around their windows and doors, and dried-out caulking around the frames is usually part of it. Our caulking services in Newcastle cover those outside joints and the tub, shower and counter seams inside. The old bead comes out completely, the joint gets cleaned, and a new one goes in with the right product for that spot.

Sealing Up Drafty Frames and Settling Bathrooms

Exterior caulking takes a beating here. Summer sun dries it out, winter cold shrinks it, and each freeze-thaw cycle tugs at the joint a little more. On an older house the bead around a window or door frame may be decades old and hard as plastic, with gaps you can slide a fingernail into. Cold air comes through those gaps, and rain runs in behind the trim, where it can rot a sill out of sight.

Window caulking is a cheap first step before anyone talks about replacing windows. If the frame and sill are sound, a fresh, properly sized bead stops a lot of the air and water at the edges. If Pedro finds soft wood once the old caulk is out, he'll show you, because sealing over rot only traps the moisture in.

In the newer houses south of the 401, the caulking trouble is usually inside. A new house moves as its framing dries, and the joint where a tub meets the tile or a countertop meets the wall can open up in the first couple of years. Once that bead cracks, shower water gets behind it. For bathtub caulking we use 100% silicone, which stays flexible, and it needs a full day to cure before you run a bath.

Pedro handles caulking removal and replacement around tubs, showers, sinks and windows. For how he approaches caulking services in general, see our caulking services page.

How caulking services works

  1. Removal

We cut and scrape out every bit of the old caulking. Anything left behind stops the new caulk from sticking properly, so we don't skip this.

  2. Clean and prep

The joint is cleaned with a mildew remover and left to dry completely.

  3. Apply new caulk

Wet areas get 100% silicone. Trim and exterior joints get a paintable acrylic-latex. Every bead is tooled smooth for a clean, professional finish.

  4. Cure time

Silicone takes 24 hours to fully cure. We'll let you know when it's safe to use the tub or sink again.

Caulking Services in Newcastle: FAQ

Do you offer caulking services in Newcastle?

Yes. Newcastle is part of our Durham Region service area, and we work there from our base in Bowmanville. Call or text (289) 928-5689, or request a free estimate online.

Can I just caulk over the old caulking around my windows?

It won't last. New caulk doesn't bond well to old, dirty or cracked caulk, so the fresh bead peels away with the old one underneath it, often within a season. Cutting the old material out takes longer, but it's the part that makes the new seal hold. On a typical window it doesn't add much to the job.

What time of year is best for outdoor caulking in Newcastle?

Spring and early fall usually work best. The joints are dry, the temperatures are moderate, and the caulk can cure properly before summer heat or a hard frost. We avoid days with rain coming. Indoor caulking around tubs and counters can be done any time, so it's an easy job to book in the middle of winter.
