Home Renovations in Port Hope, ON
Room by room, done right.
Updating a kitchen or bathroom in a 19th-century Port Hope house means working around things worth keeping, like original hardwood, solid wood trim and plaster walls. We take on home renovations in Port Hope that bring a room up to date while protecting what's original, and we renovate the newer homes outside the heritage core as well. With 16 years in construction behind him, Pedro can run the job at every stage.
Modern Kitchens and Baths Inside Victorian Walls
Before demolition starts in an older house, we decide with you what stays. Door casings and baseboards can usually be pried off carefully, numbered and put back once the walls are done. Original hardwood in the next room gets covered and protected, and if a bathroom floor has to come up, we check whether the old boards can be saved for patching elsewhere in the house.
If your house is designated, the town's heritage rules mostly concern the outside. According to the Municipality of Port Hope, interior changes don't normally need heritage approval unless they affect the external appearance, or the property's designation by-law names specific interior features. A new exterior door, a window change or an addition is a different story, so talk to planning staff before you commit to those.
Old walls hold surprises once they're open: framing notched for long-gone plumbing, or damage from a leak that was fixed years ago without anyone repairing what it left behind. Pedro's Home Inspector background helps him read what he finds, and if it changes the scope, we stop and talk it through with you first. In the newer homes, a kitchen renovation is simpler to plan, and bathroom renovations typically run $5,000 to $15,000 depending on scope.
Pedro handles bathroom remodels, kitchen refreshes and room renovations. For how he approaches home renovations in general, see our home remodeling & renovation page.

Home Renovations in Port Hope: FAQ
Do you offer home renovations in Port Hope?
Yes. Port Hope is part of our Northumberland County service area, and we work there from our base in Bowmanville. Call or text (289) 928-5689, or request a free estimate online.
Can we open up the wall between the kitchen and dining room in an older house?
Often, but first we find out whether the wall is carrying load. In many older houses the central walls hold up the floor above. If it's load-bearing, it needs a properly sized beam with posts carried down to solid support, which makes it a bigger job. We'll explain what's involved and what approvals you'll need before quoting it.
Can you redo a bathroom and keep our old clawfoot tub?
Usually, yes. The tub can be disconnected and moved out of the way during the work, then set back on the new floor with new supply lines and a new drain. Cast iron clawfoots are very heavy, so plan for extra hands on moving day. If the enamel is worn, refinishing is a specialist job and much easier while the tub is out.
