Home Renovations in Cobourg, ON

Updating Mid-Century and Heritage Rooms in Cobourg

Mid-century houses south of King Street usually have solid bones and dated rooms. A bathroom with original tile, a small tub and a single vanity is a common starting point. Taking it apart often turns up surprises, like old water damage around the tub, so we open up and inspect before anything new goes in. Bathroom remodels in Ontario typically run $5,000 to $15,000 depending on scope.

Kitchens from the same era tend to be closed off and short on counter space. Not every kitchen renovation needs walls moved. New counters, painted cabinets, a backsplash and new fixtures can change the room for $5,000 to $12,000. If you do want a different layout, a full kitchen renovation starts around $15,000, and we'll walk you through what's involved before you commit. If the cabinet boxes are solid, painting them can make a dated kitchen feel new for a lot less.

Older houses near the downtown core need a gentler hand. Plaster walls, original trim and balloon framing mean every new opening and every run of drywall has to be planned. We salvage trim where we can and match new work to old profiles as closely as the materials allow. In the newer subdivisions in the north end, the usual project is the basement, which costs about $20 to $40 per square foot to finish.
