Sheds and Storage Built for Cottage Lots

A storage shed at a cottage can sit closed for months with nobody checking on it. Built low on wet ground, the floor rots and the doors start dragging within a few years. For shed building at the lake, we set it level on a base that drains well and size the doors around what's going in, since a canoe needs a very different opening than a mower. Budget $2,000 to $5,000 for a basic shed.

Pergolas and covered patio structures suit a lake property, where you want some shade near the water without closing in the view. Expect $3,000 to $8,000, with size and materials setting the final number. Close to the shore, posts and footings have to cope with soft or wet ground, and the hardware needs to stand up to damp air. If the project needs a permit, we'll tell you at the start.

If you're in the GTA during the build, you'll still know what's happening. You get a written proposal with materials, labour, timeline and total cost before we start, then daily updates while the build is under way, so you can follow along from the city. Any change to the plan gets talked through with you before we go ahead, and we clean up the site before we head home.
