Home Repairs in Brooklin, ON

Fixed at the cause.

Brooklin houses fall into two camps, and each one breaks in its own way. The newer places north and east of the old village are still settling, so drywall cracks and doors drift out of square. The heritage homes along Baldwin Street have original woodwork that needs a patient hand. We handle home repairs in Brooklin for both, and Pedro looks for the cause before he touches the symptom.

New-Build Settling and Old Village Woodwork

Most of the house repairs we're called for in the newer subdivisions come down to a house finding its footing. Framing lumber dries out over the first few years and the structure settles a little. As the studs shrink, fasteners back out and you get nail pops in a tidy line, or tape lifting at a ceiling corner. An interior door that closed fine at possession starts rubbing the frame. None of that means the house is failing, but patching too early means patching twice.

Brooklin also has a lot of young families, and kids are hard on a house. We cut out and patch the hole where a doorknob met the hallway wall, and we rehang closet doors that jumped their track. Towel bars and stair railings that got used as climbing gear get re-secured into solid wood. Builder-grade hardware wasn't made for that kind of use, so where it makes sense we swap in something sturdier.

In the old village core the pace changes. Original trim, doors and casings in those heritage homes can't be replaced with something off the shelf without looking wrong, so a good repair handyman saves what's there when he can. That might mean regluing a loose joint, filling and shaping damaged wood, or rehanging a heavy old door so it swings true. Pedro's years as a Home Inspector help here, because a sagging door frame in an old house sometimes points to a problem underneath it.

Pedro handles drywall, door, fixture and water damage repairs. For how he approaches home repairs in general, see our home repairs page.

How home repairs works

  1. Tell us what's wrong

Describe the problem. A photo of the damage helps a lot, so snap one and send it over.

  2. Assessment and estimate

Simple repairs can often be quoted over the phone. If it's more involved, Pedro comes out to look at it and gives you a written estimate.

  3. The repair

We book a time that suits you. Pedro shows up with the tools and materials to finish the job.

  4. Final check

Every repair gets checked before we leave. If something isn't right, we fix it before we head out the door.

Home Repairs in Brooklin: FAQ

Do you offer home repairs in Brooklin?

Yes. Brooklin is part of our Durham Region service area, and we work there from our base in Bowmanville. Call or text (289) 928-5689, or request a free estimate online.

Should I fix nail pops now or wait until the house stops settling?

If it's only cosmetic, waiting a year or two usually pays off. Most of the movement in a new house happens early, and patching each pop as it shows up means doing the same wall twice. You can keep a list and have us patch everything in one visit before you paint. If a crack is wide, keeps growing or sits beside a door that won't latch, call sooner.

My son's doorknob went through the drywall behind his door. Is that a big job?

No. A hole that size usually gets cut square, backed with a strip of wood, patched, then mudded, sanded and painted to blend in. Small repairs like that generally run $75 to $200. We'll fit a door stop while we're there so it doesn't happen again. If you have leftover wall paint from when you moved in, set it out for us and we'll use it for the touch-up.
